What happens during an Equine Assisted Coaching session?
On the day of your first Equine Assisted Coaching session we will meet to have a talk, go through your registration form and we will be able to discuss any issues or topics that you feel might be relevant to your session as well as any concerns you may have.
After the initial talk we will head over to the horses and may simply spend some time observing and being with them, depending on the session I like to play this by ear.
During the session with the horse or horses you will enter into the arena or field with the horses and I will stay at some distance.
I will observe the interaction between you and the horse(s) and ask questions and give feedback according to what it is that happens. From this a natural flow of interaction and conversation evolves, which often leads to all sorts of insights.
In some sessions very little talking is actually required and it's much more important for you to be able to be present in the moment with the horses without any interruptions.
Sometimes I also like to work with cones, signs, coaching cards or other objects, and other times it can also be useful to use a halter and a lead rope. No two sessions are ever the same and every session is completely tailored to and dependent on what the horses and the human bring to the session.
I would like to stress that no prior experience with horses is required at all, and at no point will you be asked to ride the horses.
