Equine Assisted Coaching
Why Equine Assisted Coaching?
Horses have an innate sensitivity and ability to feel what is going on with whoever or whatever they encounter. They naturally live in a heightened state of attunement to all of life and the energy around them.
Being prey animals they rely on their incredibly sensitive nervous systems to be able to know when to use their "flight response" to escape a situation that could potentially be dangerous
In an Equine Assisted Coaching session we borrow this natural instinct of the horse to "sense" the situation they are in.
Mirroring our inner state
Horses are also very good at being able to feel whether a persons energy and body language match the way in which they are behaving outwardly.
If you are trying to get a horse to walk one way, while inwardly you don't feel confident that the horse will do so, more often than not they won't follow you. If you are acting as if you are perfectly happy, while in fact there is something that is bothering you, they often have the ability to tell that something isn't right.
They look for emotional congruency in other beings around them, and by doing so encourage us to look at our own state of being. They are the most wonderful mirrors.
Gentle approach
Not only do they mirror our own behaviour back to us but they are also wonderful co-regulators. They will often stand next to another horse or a person for as long as they need in order for their nervous system to start feeling more calm, allowing the person to access their emotions and experience a sense of safety.
It has been proven that the electromagnetic field of a horses heart is 5 times more powerful than that of human beings, reaching up to 9 meters. Imagine the effect it can have when standing within that energy field and absorbing their calmness. Sometimes it genuinely feels as if they are holding space for a profound healing experience to be allowed to happen.
Horses sense the physical, emotional and energetic tension that we hold and nudge us gently in the direction of letting these go.
Equine Assisted Coaching can be beneficial to anyone, if you have specific questions you have come across in your life, difficulties you have come up against or equally as a new experience.
It can be particularly useful in cases where someone is suffering from burn out, ptsd, trauma and physical health issues as a result of stress.
No previous experience with horses is needed and at no point during the session will the client ride the horse.
